Webinar summary
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games represented a major challenge for Orange in terms of mission-critical communications, but also an opportunity to demonstrate its expertise as an operator in creating the infrastructures and solutions needed to make the event a success.
Solutions implemented during the Paris 2024 project
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games posed several major challenges for Orange. Firstly, Paris, as an open city, required extensive network coverage to guarantee smooth communication across all Olympic venues. Secondly, managing content consumption by large numbers of spectators was crucial to avoid network saturation. The Opening Ceremony was a striking example, where the network supported more than three times the usual traffic without saturating, thanks to meticulous preparation and regulation mechanisms.
To meet these challenges, Orange deployed a number of innovative solutions, including:
- extending network coverage inside Olympic venues,
- setting up a mobile virtual private network to guarantee minimum bandwidth,
- the TEAM Connect solution for secure, prioritized group communications.
Paris 2024: a use case that opens up multiple perspectives
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games now serve as a global benchmark for secure communications. Orange plans to leverage the ecosystem and solutions developed for this event to support other B2B customers in critical uses.
Today, mobile virtual private network solutions and the TEAM Connect solution are deployed in various sectors such as industry, energy and construction to ensure the safety and coordination of workers.
These solutions guarantee stable flows and secure communications.
The new hybrid private network solution, combining the advantages of a public network and a dedicated private network, offers operational efficiency, enhanced security, low latency and differentiated quality of service.
The validation of slicing concepts for 5G standalone enables Orange to serve different customer typologies with adapted qualities of service. This capability will be used to launch hybrid networks and premium slices.
Orange continues to explore new use cases in collaboration with customers, notably via Orange 5G Labs, to identify and meet the specific needs of businesses and events.
